Calshot RNLI all weather lifeboat crew were called upon three times today (Thursday) to attend to injured yachtsmen during Cowes Week. In the first incident a crewman aboard a J80 class yacht received a serious head injury after an accident. He was treated aboard the boat by Calshot lifeboat’s Doctor and a Doctor aboard the yacht before being transferred to the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue boat to airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.
The second incident involved a man overboard from a 40ft Beneteau yacht who had been rescued by the yacht crew but had swallowed a significant amount of seawater, a crewmember from Calshot gave first aid before he was taken to Cowes to be met by an ambulance and taken to St Mary’s hospital in Newport.
In a further incident, the Doctor from Calshot lifeboat helped to treat a French sailor at Cowes who had received a head injury, he was also taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
