DESCRIPTION: This book features 385 high quality photographs. The cover features a full colour image but the photographs through the book are in black and white. This includes some that were shot in colour but the publisher has decided to rely on b&w reproduction for continuity and to avoid a much higher production cost that would have been passed on in the cover price. The treatment is very effective. Many similar types of book employ brief text interspersed with the photographs that form the main photographic essay. In this book a different approach has positioned the full size and evocative images in sections. The reader is therefore not distracted from the full impact of the images. To then introduce the explanatory extended captions, thumbnails of the full images are included with the captions, keeping these sections as self-supporting text and images. This is an excellent approach that makes this an innovative presentation of some outstanding images of war. No serious student of this period of military conflict will want to be without a copy of this fine book.
