Award winning visitor attraction the ss Great Britain Trust is set to launch brand new digital interpretation platform, designed to encourage off and online visitor engagement.
The trust has enlisted digital media experts Sift Digital to create an integrated campaign and compelling story based on the life of the ship’s most famous and mysterious Captain – Captain Gray.
Beginning in the digital sphere, visitors to the ss Great Britain website will be invited to ‘take a journey and discover the life of Captain Gray’ through the use of platform games all with outcomes designed to be shared across multiple social platforms. The game follows a series of story points including proving diplomacy by solving a dispute with passengers to promote you to First Mate and making an animated Gray (who was a fitness fanatic) climb the ship’s mast with a button bashing game.
The story concludes with the mysterious disappearance of the Captain in 1872. Through the eyes of a steward you discover his empty cabin and open porthole – devised as a prompt to encourage online users to visit the ship and find out what happened to Gray through a series of Captain Gray themed events throughout autumn and winter, including storytelling, tours of the ship and access to the archives.
