LONDON (2 April 2014) — Every year Turkey hosts a number of arts festivals across the country attracting leading artists as well as appreciative audiences. Focusing on the ‘high arts’ of ballet and opera, this year’s must-see festivals include:
o The 5th International Istanbul Opera Festival (3-17 June) presents operas with a Turkish connection in relevant historical sites across the city. www.istanbuloperafestival.gov.tr/eng/
o The 4th International Istanbul Ballet Competition and Festival (21-26 June) attracting leading dancers, ensembles and dance schools from around the world. www.istanbulballetcompetition.gov.tr/eng/index.html
o The 12th International Bodrum Ballet Festival (29 July-16 August) held in the elegant town of Bodrum and set in a region known for its history. www.bodrumballetfestival.gov.tr/index_e.html
o The 21st International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival (30 August-20 September) in its yearly presentation at the Roman open-air Aspendos Theatre near Antalya and attracting companies from around the globe. www.aspendosfestival.gov.tr/index_e.html
As all of these festivals are located in areas with many other attractions, they represent a welcome cultural addition to what such cities as Istanbul and resorts as Antalya and Bodrum already offer.
