Charlie Eastwood finished in the runner-up position at the final round of the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, held at Manfeild Park in Feilding. The NZ Grand Prix was the jewel in the crown of the Toyota Racing Series season and 2015 marked the 60th anniversary of the event.
Charlie has been competing in the five-round series over the past month and finished on a high, taking second place in the 35-lap, highly competitive race, the longest event of the season. The championship has seen 21 drivers vying for the title.
The Ulsterman finished the season sixth overall in the drivers’ points, driving for the M2 Competition team. It was a positive end to the season despite Charlie suffering two mechanical failures and, in two other races, being the victim of drivers crashing into him, forcing him out of contention in the races.
Charlie Eastwood: “It’s been an amazing championship to be involved with to keep learning and building up my experience in single-seaters. The pace has been good all along and I’ve been up there with drivers that have raced in F3 and GP2. Signing up to the series at the last minute left us with some disadvantages, but we dug deep and are taking a lot away from the series.”
