Paul Smith designs cover for rare James Bond book
On show until Saturday 7th November
Peter Harrington, the UK’s largest rare book seller and one of the leading rare book sellers in the world, are well known for the range of first edition and rare books they sell including the full range of James Bond books. To mark the launch of the new James Bond film Peter Harrington asked one of Britain’s foremost designers, Paul Smith, to create a new cover for a first edition, first impression copy of The Man with the Golden Gun (1965).
Paul Smith’s stunning design includes James Bond wearing the new Paul Smith ‘A Tuxedo to Travel In’ whilst holding a golden gun. The book has a bright scarlet background and pink coated end papers and this specially executed fine binding by the Chelsea Bindery is on sale for £3,500.
The book is on display with 40 other Bond books and memorabilia in the ‘Domino Room’ at Paul Smith’s Mayfair shop until Saturday 7th November.
Paul Smith says… “Ian Fleming’s Bond books have entertained so many people and have always fascinated me. It is an absolute joy to have the opportunity to host this event in my No. 9 Albemarle Street shop with all the first edition books available for everyone to see!”
Pom Harrington says… “It has been particularly exciting to see one British icon designing a particularly special book in celebration of another. The finished item is certainly worthy of the Bond legacy, and the evening was a fitting tribute to Fleming’s best-loved creation.”
