The 2019 edition of this unique and authoritative guide to the inland waterways of Belgium and France is the 23rd edition. Reflecting the two-way interaction between the Cruising Association and its Members, the guide has been built and updated each year by the contributions of Members from their experiences of sailing these waters. – Outstanding, Most Highly Recommended
Mushroom Models Publications have produced a range of excellent books that are aimed at model engineers and model makers, but they have also produced some fine histories of aircraft types, particularly with a Polish element. This book combines all three elements and is specially welcome in addressing subject that have not been adequately covered before. The standard of illustration is first rate and includes colour images commissioned for the book. – Most Highly Recommended
This is an interesting approach to the highlights of aviation history. The book is produced very nicely on gloss paper with many photographs and concise text by a team of authors and an editorial team. There are some full colour, full page and double spread, images, but illustration is mainly by thumbnail images of various sizes. – Recommended
This is a very important book that asks and answers some of the most important questions of the century and should be widely read because it covers subjects that affect everyone, but where vested interests have been keen to avoid debate. The history of the world has seen a handful of events in many thousands of years that change the direction of human life. There will be debate as to exactly when this latest stage of human revolution began and exactly where we are in its cycle, but no one can argue that it is not a significant change in the fortunes of the human race. – Most Highly Recommended
This series of battlefield guides has been proving very successful and this new addition to the series follows the established format. The First World War is largely remembered as a bitter war of attrition between trench systems that ran from the Channel coast to the Swiss border but it did not start that way and the authors provide a graphic story of the Menin Road with a guide for those intending to visit the battlefield. – Most Highly Recommended
Sometimes I feel it’s hard to keep up with all the excellent maritime/military titles being published. Last year I highlighted a selection of these books that especially appealed to me and I hope you found some titles of interest in my regular BookPick blogs. I’m kicking off the New Year with three fascinating and superbly illustrated reference works on various types of sea vessels – along with a book on the Peninsular War and a moving account of the tragic loss of HMS Truculent. Happy Reading!
