Peter Harrington, the UK’s largest rare book seller and one of the leading rare book sellers in the world, are launching a NEW catalogue containing details of 300 of their most popular children’s first edition and rare books.

This catalogue includes well-known classics such as The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, as well as books by AA Milne, Beatrix Potter, CS Lewis, Rudyard Kipling, Dr Seuss and Arthur Ransome. It also includes more modern rare children’s books such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and other books by Roald Dahl, the Harry Potter series, the Paddington Bear books and The Gruffalo.  As well as books the catalogue also contains a few illustrations by, for example, Beatrix Potter and EH Shepherd and a letter from AA Milne. All items from the catalogue will be on display at their NEW Mayfair shop in Dover Street.  Prices start from £85 and go up to £57,500.

The catalogue can be downloaded at or purchased in one of their shops and contains detailed descriptions of each item and photographs of many. Peter Harrington offer an ‘unconditional guarantee’ for each item they sell on its authenticity and completeness, as described in their literature.

Rare children’s books are always popular as they remind us of stories we loved hearing when we were children and people love reading to their own children and grandchildren. These first editions and rare books are not only popular with collectors but they make exceptionally well received gifts for christenings, special birthdays for adults and children and other special occasions such as weddings.

As Holly Segar, the children’s book expert at Peter Harrington says…

“This catalogue features 300 rare children’s books, many of which are extremely difficult to find, especially in such good condition. Children’s books are, as one might imagine, a particularly popular genre to collect – we all have cherished stories from our childhood, and owning a pristine copy of a first edition makes those memories all the more special.”

Peter Harrington will also be exhibiting their children’s books at the 43 Dover Street, their new bookshop, during April and at the Olympia Book Fair from 28th-30th May.
